Where do i start?? I am ready to go!!

That is wonderful!   So here is what happens next...

For In-person clients - We can do this together while we have a cup of tea and marvel at your  amazing project!! Email me and we can arrange a time to get together.

For Mail-In clients - 

• You create a quilt top and have chosen a backing
• Click "Book My Quilt" and I will send you a Quilt Intake Form or you can access it in the Resources section on the Home Page
• I contact you to discuss your amazing top and go over various options of Hobbs Batting (supplied at an additional cost), thread and quilt design
• You prep your top by Pressing and removing loose threads, mark the top if directional with painters tape or a safety pin, fold on the bias to reduce wrinkles
• Download my Longarm Quilting Checklist  to get the best results
• You mail me the top and backing (please send me the tracking number so I can monitor its progress to me)
•  I live in Ontario and my mailman loves bringing me packages as he gets to visit with my two French Bulldogs.   
• I will happily quilt your top and send a progress photo
• Once completed, I will send more photos to you 
• I will obtain a shipping quote and add to the invoice
• You pay the invoice by E-transfer to slipperyneedles@gmail.com and I pop your completed quilt back to you (with tracking information sent to you as well)
• We do it all over again on your next quilt top!

More on Shipping

I recommend placing all your items in a waterproof bag.  Bags you can vacuum the air out of are great and will ensure nothing gets wet.  Outer packaging can be a box or a bag.  Purolator and Canada Post both come daily to my area and are a great local choice (for me anyways).  Choose whatever works for your local area.

Make sure everything is sealed tight.  Please email me the tracking number so I can also track its way to me.

More on Return Shipping

Your quilt will be returned by Canada Post Priority shipping with a tracking number and $100 of insurance included or by Purolator.  If you would like more insurance let me know and I will add it to your invoice.  

Your package will require a signature.  Couriers shipping timelines are out of my control, so make sure to plan ahead if this is for a special occasion or holiday gift giving. 

Payment

Quilts are not returned until payment is complete.  I do accept a variety of payment methods such as PayPal, e-Transfer and cold hard cash.

What kind of quilting are you looking for???

Edge to Edge quilting  This is a single cohesive design applied to the entire quilt top.  I love Free-motion Edge to Edge quilting and computerized quilting.  I have  hundreds of computerized designs available to finish your quilt with and I am always adding more to my collection.  Check out the PDF file on the homepage to see what I already have or we can find something new!  I can quilt just about anything you like. However, if there is a design that you love, that I do not have, send me the information and I would be happy to add it to my collection.  

Please note:  Edge to edge Free motion or computerized is 3.5 cents per square inch as of July 1, 2024

Custom quilting and Semi-Custom quilting is NOT Edge to Edge quilting.  This can be very dense quilting to medium density with many designs in between.  Semi-custom quilting has a different center motif with another motif on the borders for example. Fully Custom quilts are billed hourly, but range from 0.05 to 0.15 per sq in.   As ballpark estimates are given, the final invoice is calculated by the hours needed to complete this project.  Custom quilting require many different motifs, template work, ruler work, stitch in the ditch, thread changes, multiple stops and starts, pattern marking and in some cases custom pattern designing.   Please note: Custom quilting takes many hours depending on style and density (40, 50, 60+ hours) to complete.  Please plan your quilt booking with this in mind so there are no missed deadlines due to time being too short.

Calculate your square inch dimensions,  you must first find your tape measure (it may be under a pile of fabric!).   

Lay your top flat and measure one long side and one short side in inches. 

Multiply those measurements together to get your over all inches squared of your top. 

Then multiply your square inches with the type of quilting you choose.   

Example:  A quilt is 60 x 75.  50x60 = 4500 square inches x 0.035 for Edge to Edge.  Therefore the charge is $157.50 (Canadian Dollars).  There is a $50. minimum cost.   

Batting

I use and keep in stock Hobbs 80/20 in white and natural.  I currently have black available while stock lasts.   Batting is a separate charge and not included in the per sq inch quilting price.  I charge by the linear inch and will do my best to ensure I only cut and charge what is needed for your quilt.  Please note that I require and extra 4 inches all the way around for quilting.  As batting prices fluctuate, pricing is available at the time a quilt is booked in for quilting.  Current prices are on the Quilt Intake Form.

Trimming

Free Trimming at edge of the top or 1/4 inch from edge available as per intake form.    Significant scraps over 2 inches approx will be returned with your quilt.

Binding

Prepared binding added to the front of quilt - 10 cents per linear inch.  Please note customer still needs to attach to the back by hand.  I also offer to machine sew to the back and machine sew to the front for 20 cents a linear inch.  

Thread

I like to use Glide 40 wt thread.   I like to blend the thread colour into your top.  If you would like to use a bolder thread choice just let me know. I DO NOT charge for thread or bobbins as this is included with the per square inch pricing for your quilting.
